Letter from the President posted 1/19/2012 by Hello,
Welcome to Hopkins Dynamo. I would like to share some thoughts with you about our youth soccer program, and what WE do for you, as well as what YOU can do to help make your child's soccer experience a fun and exciting one. As a soccer club we value community, competitiveness, player development, and giving our families a lot for your dollar. Having kids come up through our club myself, I have heard many of the questions and concerns first hand... even lived some of those same thoughts and experiences myself.
First, I would like to tell you what you get from us. We provide space to play (indoors, and out), coaching staff, uniforms and organization of teams. With each of these items there is "behind the scenes" work that gets done to make things work. Coordination of all of our fields, practices and games, evaluation and placement of players on teams, registration of the players and teams with MYSA, lining of the fields, and the list goes on and on. In short... we provide the means for your sons and daughters to play soccer in a structured environment
Next, is what YOU can do. To make your son or daughters team successful, will require an investment and "buy in" from all of the families on your team. The families of every team determine the team "culture". If not all, or "not even most" of the teams families come with the same expectations and level of commitment, things can be frustrating for everyone. It is good to meet as soon as your team is identified and determine the culture of the team as well as identify a team manager and maybe an assistant. You must determine how organized and competitive the majority of families want to be, as well as the level of commitment each family is willing to make. Once you determine how competitive you want to be as a team, you can decide how many practices a week you want to have and how many tournaments your team will play. It is good to know this early so the team manager can work on figuring out what tournaments will work for the most families on the team. Set realistic expectations for your team.
Winter training and clinics will help your players develop. This cannot be over stated. Teams that train together in the winter and off season are much better prepared when the season arrives and the players skills are much more developed. The players are better individually and as a team. Dynamo proudly offers opportunities throughout the winter to keep our players skills sharp. Soccer, like so many other sports has become a competitive year round sport. It can be difficult to play competitively against teams that train year round if your team does not. The evidence speaks quite loudly on the first game of the season.
You can help us by registering your soccer players as early as possible and attending the tryouts. This will enable us to form the teams early and announce the rosters so you can start organizing your season. It is impossible for us to identify the teams when we don't know how many players we actually have.
To summarize, Dynamo provides the means for our kids to play soccer, but the players and families of each team ultimately create the culture of the teams and determine if they succeed. Register early so we can identify your teams and coaches. This will enable you to begin communicating within your teams, and allow you to determine your team goals and objectives. The earlier you determine your team’s goals and objectives, the earlier you can start to plan your season.
Thank you for being a part of Dynamo Soccer.
Sincerely,
Alan Gabriele, Hopkins Dynamo Soccer Club President

What is Dynomites Soccer? Hopkins Dynamo Soccer Recreational Program consists of U6 and U8 age groups of players primarily residing in the Hopkins School District. The goal of the Dynomites Program is to introduce children to the game of soccer. We want them to have a fun, positive experience while acquiring ball skills. Players are placed on teams geographically or by school when possible. You may request to be on a team with friends. Each team of around 7 players will have its own set of parent coaches & team managers, but will be assisted every week by qualified Hopkins Dynamo trainers. This is a 5 week program, 2 times per week, which equals 10 sessions, plus a fun filled soccer Dynomite Jamboree Day on July 16 2012.
Uniforms are included in the $110 cost. Players need to wear soccer shin guards & tennis shoes or soccer cleats and bring a water bottle & soccer ball to each game. (U6 & U8 players use a Size 3 soccer ball)
Players will begin each session by taking part in a 15 minute skill development time with a trainer. Each session will end with two teams playing against each other in a 4x4 game lasting approximately 35 minutes. Every team will have two functions per week, either on Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays. Each function will last approximately one hour.
Our program depends upon parent volunteers.
The coach responsibilities include: organize the team in games, sub the players in the game, help the players to learn the game of soccer & assist the trainer in the skills sessions.
Team manager responsibilities include: communication with the team, be a contact person for any questions, compile team player contact information & create treat schedule.

Brian Boyd Named 2011 MYSA Girls Competitive Coach of the Year!!
This award is given to a competitive coach for both a boy's team and a girl's team. This person exemplifies leadership both on and off the field and goes that extra mile to ensure a great soccer experience for all participants.
Brian has developed a core group of girls from Hopkins Dynamo from a C3 to a C1 team who placed second in the district this past season. The team also won the MYSA OATHS award which honors players, coaches and spectators who exhibit good sportsmanship throughout the season. Brian demands his players play with dignity and fairness He is incredibly patient but he maintains a very high level of expectation when it comes to development. Each player is given a very thorough evaluation with goals to work on. Brian has an extremely effective way of offering advice to the players, whether it is complimenting them or suggesting improvement opportunities. His guidance is always given in a positive, clear manner and usually with a smile.

Congratulations to our Summer 2011 U15C1 & U12C3 Girls teams and Fall U14C2 Boys team for winning the MYSA OATHS awards this year!!
OATHS (Outstanding Ambassadors of Teams Honoring Sportsmanship) is an encouragement education program for traveling Under 9 through Under 19 boys and girls teams that distinguish athletes, coaches and fans for their dedication to good sportsmanship. The goal is to allow the players to enjoy the sporting event as well as the total complement of fans, referees and coaches.
The OATHS Evaluation is included on every Competitive Match Report. All referees are asked to complete the evaluation of each team’s players, coaches and fans. Referees are asked if the players are playing within the rules and spirit of the game. Coaches will be evaluated to make sure all players and officials are treated with respect. And fans are expected to support all players, coaches, and referees in a positive manner.
Responses are tabulated and the data analyzed to determine our OATHS winners. The results of the tabulations are used to evaluate overall sportsmanship throughout the state of Minnesota.
Teams receiving the highest accumulated marks over the course of the season are presented with recognition pins, special gifts and a certificate of achievement.
Congratulations!!!
